COURTENAY CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (CCS)
SEASON 3 ! FINAL TABLE - Friday, October 30th, 2009 at Harmon Avenue
COURTENAY CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (CCS)
HARMON AVENUE POKER RULES IN EFFECT. REVIEW THE LATEST VERSION ON THE RULES PAGE.
What is the Courtenay Championship Series
- A series of 20 Tournaments resulting in a final table of 8 who play down to an annual winner of the Series. Previous winners of the series are Rick Lidberg (Season 1) and Bob K. (Season 2). Season 3 is getting down to the short strokes.
FINAL TABLE IS SET. TOP 8 HAVE MADE IT THROUGH WITH ONLY ONE POSSIBLE CHANGE TO OCCUR. IF ANY FINAL TABLIST CANNOT MAKE IT, THEY ARE REMOVED FROM THE TABLE AND THE LAYERS BEHIND THEM MOVE UP. CURRENTLY, BEDFORD IS THE ONLY QUESTION MARK. IF HE IS UNABLE TO ATTEND, DAN MOVES INTO 7TH AND JUNIOR WOULD MOVE INTO 8TH.
- The original reason for creation of the series was to provide a way for the top league finishers to get enough money to buy into the BC Poker Championship at the River Rock in November of each year, if they chose to do so. No actual requirements on the use of the money has ever been imposed.
- The tournaments are a $50.00 buy-in per tournament, with all of the buy-in's, excluding $110.00 which is taken out of each tournament prize pool, being paid out at the end of the tournaments.
- The $110.00 is held back and applied to the prize pool for the tournament series final table at the end of each series. 20 Tournaments = $2,200.00.
- All money held back is paid out at the end of the series.
- If any player does not agree to the structure of the payouts, they should not ask for an invitaiton.
- TDA rules apply to each tournament, although Cole, Darryl and I will be getting together to standardize tournament rules across the board for all games played at Harmon Avenue in the future.
- Tournaments are, on average, held every two weeks.
How do I sign up?
- Series is invitation only, although the invitations are not that hard to acquire. In Season 1, about 30 people were involved (24 regulars and 6 alternates). This increased to about 50 for Season 2 (Again 24 regulars, with numerous alternates). Holding all of Season 3 at Harmon Avenue allows the roster of regulars to be increased to 30, with alternates. However, no more than 30 players will be allowed to play in any one Tournament.
How does the points system work?
- Points are simple, and are a holdover from the start of the series, when 24 was the max who could play. No more than 24 maximum points will be awarded for any tournament. Points are awarded in order of finish (first place receives 24 points, 2nd 23 etc.). However, all players who play, regardless of the actual number will receive at least one point. In other words, if 30 players play, the bottom 7 people will receive one point with the number increasing from 23 upwards.
- Each tournament will be worth 24 points to the eventual winner. If less than 24 people attend and play, then the points will be distributed from 1st to last starting at 24 on downwards. For instance, Tournament #1, Season 3 had 23 people playing. The person who came in last place was awarded 2 points, the winner 24.
- Finally, only the top 15 results for any one player are counted in the series point standings. So, any player can have 5 really bad results without impacting their overall standings. This has not been a problem in the past, as only the top 9 or 10 players played enough tournaments to make this adjustment meaningful.
who makes the final table?
- The top 8 point holders after the 20 tournaments make the final table. The final table is essentially a free roll, where the $110.00 removed from the bi-weekly prize pool is played for. Top 4 finishers at the final table make money. At the end of 20 tournaments the Prize Pool for the top 8 players is $2,200.00. there is no additional buy-in to play at the final table.
- A new perk for those finishing at the final table (created at the end of Season #2) was a special card capper. All finishers at a final table recieve one (and only one) of the Stainless Steel Card Cappers designed by Cotty's Girlfriend. Mutiple final table finishers will not be given more than one of these. Final table winners are given the same design card cappers, but in Sterling Silver. Again, you can only win one.
- There is no cost for these card cappers, but the Stainless Steel Cappers cost about $30.00 each to manufacture, and the Sterling Silver ones cost about $50.00. I had enough manufactured to last several years, out of my own resources.
Tournament Stats are emailed to all players as soon as they are completed by the Tournament Director. Current Player Lists will (hopefully) be maintained on this site as well as the current standings for the Season.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS FROM FRIDAY, August 21st, 2009
Finished runner up again. Had Brad on the ropes twice but couldn't oversome a couple of huge suckouts. truth be told, I had to suck out once myself to have him crippled on one of those occassions.
Early on I sparred Anna, Cole and Al. Was up and down (mostly down after running into Anna who was running the table). Managed to chip up by taking out Fred.
Down to two tables, I flopped trip 9's to Jim's top pair top kicker and I had him outchipped slightly. I was now a big stack.
Best hand of the night for me was getting into a raising battle with Al when he three bet All-in with a J-6 off. I called with a KQ suited and took 90% of his stack when it held up. I went with my gut that he was just pushing with nothing and I was right, this time.
Monster stack at the final table (along with Anna) I went more or less card dead, except for a huge hand against Anna. I flopped trip 8's while she flopped top pair of K's with a 10 kicker. My river bet was 17k which she declined. Good fold Anna.
